Are you feeling the heat yet? As the mercury rises, it can be tough to keep your cool, especially when you have a little one to care for. But don’t worry, we’ve got you covered! In this blog, we’ll share some tips and tricks to help you survive the hot days in Adelaide with your newborn baby.
Adelaide is known for its gorgeous beaches and sunny weather, but when you’re a parent, the heat can be a little less enjoyable. Your little one may struggle to regulate their temperature and feel more uncomfortable than you do, which can lead to crankiness and tears. But fear not! With a few easy tricks, you can help your baby stay cool and comfortable even in the hottest of temperatures.
So, whether you’re a seasoned parent or a newbie, grab a cold drink, sit back, and read on. We’ll cover everything from what to dress your baby in to how to keep them hydrated and happy. With these tips, you’ll be able to enjoy summer in Adelaide without breaking a sweat (well, maybe a little sweat, but it’ll be worth it!).
As a new parent, it’s normal to be concerned about your baby’s health and safety, especially during hot weather. One of the biggest risks for newborns during hot weather is overheating, which can cause dehydration, heat exhaustion, and in extreme cases, heatstroke. But what should new parents look out for, and how can they minimize the risk of their baby overheating?
First, it’s important to understand that newborns are more vulnerable to overheating than older children and adults because they can’t regulate their body temperature as effectively.
Look out for signs of overheating such as:
Sweating or clammy skin: If your baby’s skin feels damp or sweaty to the touch, it could be a sign of overheating.
Flushed skin: Overheating can cause your baby’s skin to appear red or flushed, especially on their face, neck, and chest.
Rapid breathing: If your baby is breathing faster than usual, it could be a sign that their body is trying to cool down.
Fussiness or irritability: Overheating can make babies uncomfortable and irritable, so if your little one seems unusually fussy, it’s worth checking their temperature.
High-pitched cry: A high-pitched, persistent cry can be a sign of overheating, especially if your baby is also sweating or has a flushed appearance.
Bulging fontanelle: If your baby’s fontanelle (the soft spot on the top of their head) appears to bulge or feels tense, it could be a sign of heat stress.
If you notice any of these signs in your newborn, it’s important to take action to cool them down as soon as possible. Move your baby to a cooler location, remove any excess clothing, and offer them fluids if they are able to drink. If your baby’s condition doesn’t improve, seek medical attention right away.
To minimize the risk of overheating, it’s important to keep your baby cool and comfortable.
Here are some tips to keep your baby safe and cool during the hot summer days:
Dress your baby in lightweight, breathable clothes made of natural fibers like cotton or bamboo. Avoid synthetic materials that can trap heat.
Keep your baby in the shade as much as possible, and avoid going out during the hottest parts of the day.
Use a fan or air conditioning to keep the room cool, and avoid direct sunlight.
Offer your baby frequent breastfeeds or formula feeds to keep them hydrated. You can also give them small sips of water in a bottle or cup.
Use a damp cloth or sponge to gently cool your baby down. You can also give them a lukewarm bath to lower their body temperature.
Well folks, we’ve made it to the end of our journey through surviving the hot days in Adelaide with a newborn baby! I hope you found my tips and tricks helpful in keeping both you and your little one cool, calm, and collected during those scorching summer days.
Remember, hydration is key! Make sure you’re drinking plenty of water and offering your baby frequent feeds to keep them well-hydrated too. Dress your baby in light, breathable clothing and keep them in the shade as much as possible. And if you need to venture out into the heat, don’t forget the sunscreen and a wide-brimmed hat for both you and your baby.
But most importantly, don’t be too hard on yourself. Being a new parent is tough enough without the added challenge of extreme weather conditions. Take it easy, cut yourself some slack, and enjoy these early days with your little one. Before you know it, they’ll be running around and causing all sorts of chaos!
Thanks for joining me on this adventure, and I wish you all the best in your parenting journey. Stay cool, stay hydrated, and most of all, stay awesome!

As new parents, a lot of emphasis is placed on the bond between mother and child. They can often be the first parent for baby to bond with, due to their closeness with mum at birth and the bond formed during breast feeding. However, baby’s bond with both parents can be an important part of your newborn shoot’s success!
Sometimes newborns will feel most comfortable being held by their mother, this is natural as they will form a close bond by being held close, familiarising themselves with your smell and the warmth of your bod. But there are many ways that dad can bond with baby too, so that come photo time they are feeling comfortable and settled in dad’s arms…ready to have some amazing photos taken and create some lasting memories!
These are our top 6 tips for what dad can do to bond with baby and ensure a more memorable and successful newborn shoot.
1. Cuddle time
This is a very simple and enjoyable way to bond with your newborn baby. Babies will predominantly form their bonds from touch and feeling your warmth during the first few weeks of their life, as their other senses such as sight are still developing. As baby is not fully able to familiarise people by their faces yet, they will start to become familiar with your scent, your voice, and the feeling of safety that they have when they are in your arms.
2.Help baby to fall asleep
This is a great way for baby to become more familiar with you. A great time to do this is just after they have been fed and have a full tummy of milk. This will make them feel nice and sleepy and will help them to doze off in your arms! Learning how to soothe and settle baby will help to develop your bond and make them feel safer and more relaxed around you.
3.Get involved in bath time
For most babies, bath time is one of their earliest fun and memorable experiences, and an enjoyable experience for new parents too! By getting dad involved in bath time, baby will start to associate him with a fun experience and continue to develop a close bond with him. They will start to remember dad’s scent and his face and the next time they see him will associate him with bath time and fun!
4.Changing nappies
As well as being there for baby during relaxing and fun times, it’s also important for dad to be involved with other situations such as nappy changing time. Every activity he does with baby will strengthen their bond and will make baby associate him with the care they are being given.
5. Getting baby dressed
This is another great way to show baby how much you love and care for them. Be gentle and take your time when dressing baby to make it a pleasant experience that they will associate with you. As they look up at you, feel your touch and hear your voice their bond with you will grow.
6. Taking baby out for a walk
A lovely way to start bonding with your baby is to take them out in their pram for a walk around the neighbourhood. They will love the feeling of the movement of the pram, the new colours and sights around them and breathing in the fresh air. Chat with baby on your walk about different things that you see along the way, and if it’s a lovely day take them out and hold them too. This will keep their bond and familiarity with you as their parent growing.
Give these tips a try and soon dad and baby will be inseparable! The beautiful bond they have formed will be present in their photos and serve as a lovely memory to look back on once baby is all grown up.
With Christmas around the corner, I’m sure you’re all starting to think about that perfect gift idea for your loved ones. So, we thought we’d talk about why we think family photos make the perfect Christmas gift that will never be forgotten!
It’s a gift the whole family will enjoy
It can be tricky these days figuring out what to give the ones you love. Our family members are all at different stages in their lives and have different interests and tastes, so it can be a difficult task choosing what is going to keep everyone happy. We want it to be something special and memorable, but we live in a world now where a lot of us already have everything that we want and need. Family portraits are the perfect gift that the whole family can enjoy, from grandparents, aunties, uncles and even children too!
It’s time to bond as a family
Getting together to take and view your family photos is a great way to bond as a family and an experience everyone will enjoy. There’s no rush, your session can be planned at a time that suits the whole family. During your session we will create lasting memories that you can look back on for years to come.
It keeps your family records up to date
When was the last time you updated your family photos? With the busyness of life, sometimes we can forget to update our family photo albums and will later regret not having a record of our family growing together over time. It’s so important to capture our families at every stage so that we don’t miss out on any of those special moments.
Everyone can be in the photos
Another great reason to have professional family photos taken for Christmas is that no one misses out on being in the photo! You might notice in your family photo albums that one person is always missing from the shot…perhaps it’s mum or dad. This is because they are behind the camera taking the photos! A family photography session allows a full picture of your family story without leaving anyone out.
They make a special and memorable gift

We had a birthday party on saturday and i had a newborn session today and our little girl Sophia hit the 18 month mile stone yesterday… 18 months, yes I know and i can’t believe it.
I thank God every day that we were blessed with such a cheeky spirited, amazing little girl, she has enriched our lives and keeps her older sister and brother very busy lol.
Here is sneak peek from what i managed to capture after todays newborn session, she is getting harder to photograph now but I’m not giving up 🙂
It’s been a long time coming but here is the 5th and final part of Sophias’ images from our 40 day challenge.
It has taken me longer than expected to edit these images, I have so many photos to sort through, and when i say many its more likely hundreds of images. Now my next step is to work out which images I’ll be enlarging onto canvas 🙂 – I know this will take a while but will definitely be worth it in the long run.
Our little Sophia is already 5 months old now, she has changed so much already – I’m so glad I can capture it all in photographs. We are now doing weekly photo sessions which are much easier to manage.
Here are the final images from our 40 day challenge….
I’m so glad it’s Friday today 🙂 it means I’ve survived my first whole week of school holidays as a mother of three lol.
Here is part 4 of Sophia’s 40 day challenge (taking a photo every day). Sophia is growing too fast i’m so glad i’m getting to capture her every day throughout this 40 day period.
School holidays are just around the corner and my daughter is so excited that she’ll get to spend lots of time with her little sister Sophia. Katarina adores Sophia and loves to hold her which helps me a lot, especially when getting meals ready.
Here are a couple more of Sophia’s recent photos from my 40 day challenge:
Our little Sophie is doing really well, and our other two children just adore her. Sophia is almost a month old, i seriously cannot believe it, I’m still behind in my blogging but here are the latest images from my 40 day challenge.
Gosh it’s been a little while since I’ve actually blogged.
You may or may not be aware that I’m currently on maternity leave throughout July to the end of September. Our little bundle of joy arrived on the 20th August, and she is our smallest baby out of our three, Sophia Alexia weighed 3.47 kilos at birth 🙂 she’s a lot smaller than her big sister who was 4.24 kilos and her brother who was 3.8 kilos.
I’ve been meaning to blog a photo of her every day, fortunatley I have been taking photos every day but not getting a chance to edit and publish daily.
Here is a mini gallery of Sophias’ first 14 days, once I get a chance I’ll be posting one daily for my 40 day challenge – to capture Sophia and her changes daily for this period.
At some stage I’ll also post some of my maternity images that my gorgeous hubby took of me and our family in the last few weeks of pregnancy too.
Life is certainly busy with three little ones, i’m loving every minute of it as I know how quickly time goes by…..
I just wanted to share some wonderful news with you all, I’m a little behind in my blogging but wanted to let you all know we are expecting baby number three in August.
We are very excited and cannot wait to meet our newest little one.
I plan to take maternity leave from mid July to the end of September at this stage, but will keep you updated as to how I am feeling.
If you are expecting a little one of your own and am interested in doing a newborn session with me, please contact me as early as possible as newborns are photographed best up to 14 days of age.
Here’s the image we used to announce our little one 🙂
